proyectos de navidad New year resolutions

This will be my last post for this year. I'm showing you all the projects that linger in my sewing room. New year resolution: finish them all!
Two puffs for the kids. It was impossible to take a picture without any of them jumping. They love them: a good home-made present!
¿Llegaré a tiempo?
My favourite Christmas present this year is a photo album. I realized y children almost never see pictures on paper, and my oldest is always asking how he was as a baby, what he did or said. I decided to make him an album, and now I have 200 photos to classify and prepare... Will I make it on time?

And now my half finished projects: Fence rail: finish top and quilt
 Dandelion: terminar de acolcharlo
Dandelion: Finish quilting it

Picnic quilt: This one is a beauty, it's all different scraps from el Kilo Americano, all joined with muslim. I have to make the sandwich and quilt it, although I have my doubts because it's upholstery fabric and I don't know how to quilt it.
Authen-tic's mistery quilt: quilt it, I know how I'm going to do it, I just need time
Henrietta Whiskers: it's really nice, but I don't know... I have to quilt it
And last, but not least, this stack of half square triangles is a quilting bee I'm doing with my sisters. It's going slowly. I'm taking it with me and we'll see...

Este es el montón. Tengo que acabarlos todos en el 2013. ¡Antes de empezar nada nuevo!
This is my pile. I have to finish them all during 2013. Before I start any other!!!

¡Feliz Navidad!
Merry Christmas!

This year some of my friends turned 40. 40! I know, sounds hard, but don't worry they all still look like 20. I decided to make them a little something. I love home made presents (I don's make them by hand so... home-made it is) so...
My top proposal is this organizer wallet
I have a moleskine that I use all the time. I carry it in my bag and I note down everything that comes to mind: reminders, inspiration, possible patterns, you know... I even let my children draw and write on it, so a notepad in my bag has become an essential.
¡A mi me encantaría!
When I saw this tutorial on {lbg studio}I thought it would be the ideal present: I would love it!
It has a lot of space to carry a notepad, your cards, tickets and the like, pen drive and a pencil from Ikea ;)
I used both quilting cotton with interfacing, and a heavier cotton that needed no interfacing. I used fabric from my stash and that made it even better. I got the elastic bands from one of those shops that sell beads and trimmings
What do you think? I love it and I think I'll make more..

December will start soon and that jeans Christmas is here! We are fans and we love each and every ornament so an advent calendar had to be on its way!

Some years ago we made one, but it soon proved to be too small, so my big sis decided it was time for a change and that we had to do not one, nor two but three! Advent calendars. The inspiration? The one that appears in the last photo which my mother bought in Germany

The process is easy as pie: we bought all the colour felt that was available in the store, but you will only need 24 planks of different colour felts. From each plank you draw two equal templates, one for the back and one for the front, we used five different templates that you can download here: big sock, small sock, glove, star and heart. We transferred the templates into hard cardboard and drew them back wise onto the felt and cut them.

From the extra felt, we drew the numbers and ornaments. You can download the numbers here although they are just Word numbers using “comic sans” as the font and 200 as the size. I let my children draw, cut and glue all they liked. The good thing about felt is that it can be easily glued.

Finally, we sewed a four inch satin cord in the corner, making a loop to hang it. We sewed front and back together leaving a gap to fill with sweets or notes for each day. We sewed wrong sides together, because I thought it looked nice enough. If I had had more time I would have used different colour threads but life happens…

To hang it, just pull a cotton rope through the loops in each of the pieces, find the best spot at home and fill them with magic. As soon as I get the picture of ours, I'll post them. We have started the countdown to Christmas. WooHoo!!!!

Trabajar con diamantes/ Working with diamonds

¡Diamantes!
Diamonds, how suggestive! And so it is, suggestive and let me tell you, addictive! This is one of those projects that linger in your head, I watched this video on youtube some time ago, but it talked about "quilt patis" and although I googled it I didn't know how to get them
But this year my son started out of school classes, which means lots of waiting doing nothing. Doing nothing??!! No, that's not like me! It's time to hand sew!
I got all the information I could get, from youtube, from Jessica's blog, I also got to meet Ana from quilterbell who has already made two quilts with this technique.
I saw that authe-tic sold the templates and I embarked. In a little plastic pouch I carry a bobbin of thread, needle, scissors, paper clips, the templates and a bunch of fabrics already cut into diamonds. I took some strips from a jelly roll and cut them with the aid of the 60º mark on my ruler.
You can hold the fabric to the templates with paper clips,
and then you baste it, backstitching at the corners
You join the pieces with a whipstitch
The good thing about the plastic templates is that while basting you don't go through the template, and so you don't need to undo it. On the other hand, you can only remove the template when you have the four sides of the template sewn in place so that you soon run out of the 21 templates that one packet contains. What I did was copying the templates into plastic from the covers of a notebook
At the moment I am just doing six point stars with two pieces of the background colour
I will later join them all to make the top
The technique is called English Paper Piecing, and you can use diamonds or hexagons...
You can make very different designs and I think this is the perfect project if you have waiting time
During my free time, for small or long trips, to do on a plane or even while you're having a coffee and a chat. I always carry my purse in my bag and little by little this quilt is growing. Let's see how far it takes me!

This is a pattern designed by JeniB for the Moda Bakeshop. You can find the tutorial here
Las telas son de la colección "a walk in the woods" de Aneela Hoey
This fabric collection is "a walk in the woods" by Aneela Hoey
¿Te apetece un paseo por el bosque?
Do you fell like walking in the woods?
Podemos pasear cerca del rio
We can stroll by the river
We can cross the bridges that lead the way
 Cuando encontremos el lugar ideal
When we reach the ideal place
Aunque parezca que la noche está cerca
Although it may seem that night is close
 Podemos tomarnos un té
We can have a tea
 Para luego volver a casa
And then return home

A disfrutar del calor del hogar
To enjoy the warmth
